Birmingham’s Red Carpet Moment at 2016 RICS Awards Grand Final

The 2016 RICS Awards Grand Final we attended on 14 October was a celebration of some of the brightest and the best property and construction industry projects across the UK. Hosted by TV presenter and broadcaster Gethin Jones at The London Hilton, 90 projects were shortlisted and judged before eight impressive category winners were selected and an outstanding overall Project of The Year announced.

The red carpet really was rolled out for Birmingham this year. The refurbishment of New Street Station scooped Project of The Year for outstanding best practice, offering significant benefits to the local area and the wider economy. Birmingham Gateway and Grand Central also won the Regeneration category.

Smallman & Son were naturally disappointed that Leicester’s Soft Touch Arts didn’t win overall Community Benefit Award which went to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool (North West), but we’re still very proud that the £1m refurbishment project that created Soft Touch Arts’ flagship youth arts and heritage centre in Leicester reached the 2016 final.
