Soft Touch Arts

Over the years, we have completed refurbishment and fit out projects on a variety of charity and community buildings. In 2014, we completed a large refurbishment project for local charity Soft Touch Arts.

Soft Touch Arts is a Leicester based charity that specialises in using arts, media and music activities to engage with and help disadvantaged young people. Having outgrown their previous location, Soft Touch Arts commissioned us to refurbish their new premises – a building located in Leicester city centre opposite New Walk Museum.

Being based in the city centre, our expert team ensured that they followed rules that come with working in cities re parking, health & safety and waste removal from site. In addition, this commercial building was attached to residential property and, therefore, our team ensured that they adhered to strict soundproofing and installation regulations both in the design and in the completion of the building works.

Working with local architects rg+p, we refurbished the existing building and added a new two storey extension to the back of the premises. The fit out included offices for the Soft Touch Arts team on the first floor of the property. It also included the creation of multiple soundproof music rooms, a spacious art & crafts area, a bespoke cookery classroom and a large hall to be used for a variety of activities; from art exhibitions to a weekly pop-up cafe where you can enjoy food created by the young people.

Of course, as experts in DDA legislation, accessibility was central to this refurbishment project. From DDA compliant toilets and shower rooms to the installation of a lift, we ensured that this building was accessible for all – ensuring inclusivity for all individuals.

We are particularly proud of this project. We were honoured to be invited to the opening ceremony in which Prince Edward officially opened the new premises for the inspirational charity Soft Touch Arts. In addition, in 2016, we were proud that Soft Touch Arts project won the East Midlands RICS Community Benefit Award. We are also proud that we have continued to work with the Soft Touch Arts team since this project – supporting on their inspirational projects and volunteering.
